Inspect the existing concrete
Look for cracks, movement, drainage problems, loose areas and uneven levels. The condition of the base affects the finished paving, so a qualified installer should inspect it before any overlay is planned.
Check the finished height at thresholds, drains, steps and adjoining rooms. Added thickness can create transitions that need careful detailing.
Confirm the system and installation
Ask the product supplier which substrate preparation and installation method are recommended. Do not assume a tile suitable for one surface or method is appropriate for every project.
A 20 mm paver is different from a thicker paving unit. Confirm intended use and compatibility with the installer before ordering.
Test appearance and layout
Dry-lay samples to check cuts, joint positions and how the colour looks beside the existing structure. Include borders and drainage covers in the plan.
See the [thin-depth products](/our-products/) and discuss suitability for your renovation with the supplier.
